Another Obvious Distraction

Portal 2

Just played my first hour of Portal 2, excellent game so far. I hope it last longer than the first Portal. Absolutely loves the taunts it throws at you :)

NVIDIA GTX580

Just invested in the Gigabyte GTX580 on the weekend as I realised that Portal 2 wouldn’t play at native 30” res with max settings.  As this was unacceptable I took the plunge and upgraded to the new GTX580.  I must say it is one BEEFY card, physically it’s not that much bigger than my old 8800GTX but the cooling is insane.  Well, it’s only Gigabytes revision of the cooler which admittedly make it big, I don’t really like the excessive fans.  But hey, It was cheap enough and I don’t have a window and I’ll never see it so I will put up with it.  The irony of it all is that I bought this beefy card and was testing all the various games at their max resolutions and settings only to find that I have been playing a lot of Battlefield 1942 with the DC mod.  Not only that, but the game has problems playing above 800x600 in windows 7.  So all that GFX power is going to waste on BF :P, at least until Portal 2 comes out anyway.  However over all the new card makes playing the other games like RA3 and CNC3 / 4 far more smooth and pretty compared to what I use to run.

Finished the SP25 Sound

Finally felt a little less lazy today and removed the centre console again to access the LOC converter for the Amplifier.  Calibrated both the LOC and the Amp so now I don’t have to run the Head Unit bass settings at -6.  This was the Head Unit now puts out more of a level output while the amp boosts the the bass.  There is still some play available with the Head Unit now, whereas before it was either Extreme Bass or nothing.  I must say though, now knowing how the Air Vents are removed made the task so much easier.  Had the vents out in seconds compared to the 20 minutes it took me last attempt.  Overall I am very happy with how the sound came out using the stock NON-Bose system.  Makes me wonder though how good would the Bose sound.  Oh well I guess I’ll find out at the MPS upgrade in 3 years :P

The final piece of the Boom Boom puzzle arrived today.  Being my impatient self I have just finished installing it into the SP25.  Simply pull out the Air Vents my foot.  I spent a good 30 minutes trying to work out how to remove them before for no reason they finally popped out.  I mean seriously, but anyway once I got them out the rest of the install was pretty much plug and play.  Connected the the amp to the battery and off it went.  The LOC is putting out far too much line out, but I can’t be stuffed pulling the dash apart to adjust it :P.  Oh well, the Amp is now set to lowest possible settings and head unit is -5 Bass and it is tolerable until I have to fix it on the weekend.  All in all the sound is now amazing! It goes really well with my recent transition into Dance / Electronic.

A Timely Transition

Decided to take the plunge and start blogging again after nearly 2+ years of neglect of AdrianFrost.com.  The stale content of WP finally got to me, after seeing Tumblr I decided I’d give it a crack and see how long I last this time.  So I guess here goes nothing.

The busy market streets around Jinguashi Gold and Coal Mine Villiage.  It is that tight that if you aren’t careful you could end up 30-50m away from your friends based just of the movements of the crowd.  But ZOMG best foods and most random trinket shops line this particular market.

Another Day at The Grind

Came into contact today with probably the worst wall to run cables down.  Not only did we have to remove 2x 1m x 5m roof sheets we had to drill down the wall with 4 flat batteries.  All this, only to find the noggins were made of hard wood 80mm thick and stacked 5 high.  After breaking our extension bar, auger bit and turning our new shiny 32mm spade bit black we decided to run duct…  Buildings just aren’t built like this any more, Thank God.  Anyway after much wresting and 3 hours of work we managed to run the 2x 20m VGA cables 15m from wall A to wall B “Success”.  The manager will just have to live with the modern white duct look :P
